These giant bead belts started as small wooden beads from the local hobby store. We arranged a pattern on a 12” grid and made a mold. A group of castings from this mold was arranged to create a 4 foot by 4 foot bead belt section. 12 castings of this mold created the 48 foot long model for this bead belt. The full size mold was made with sprayed urethane mold rubber with an integrated, semi-flexible RIMspray shell. The bead belts were cast in fiberglass with steel cable laminated in for structural support. The beadwork detail was painted by scenic artists.
