Giant Nests Miami Zoo |
Barbara Salvatore created the models for these giant bird nests for an interactive Avian display at the Miami Zoo. They were designed to be child safe and inviting so children could experience being a 'baby bird'. |
The models were made with natural materials and molds were made with silicone rubber and fiberglass mother molds. |

One of the challenges of this project was very large undercuts and very difficult to mold surfaces. These were sprayed-in-molds with a semi-flexible RIMspray and then lined with sprayed urethane foam. The artist hand carved the interior foam into stick shapes which were then sprayed with RIMspray. The exterior surfaces were hand painted for the scenic effect. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
